September 29, 2026 (Milan, Italy) – Matteo Thun & Partners introduce SensiVenezia, a new collection developed in collaboration with Florim. Expanding the creative journey of Sensi, the project opens a new chapter inspired by the atmosphere of the Venetian lagoon.
Conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Venice’s heritage, SensiVenezia translates the city’s memories, textures and visual impressions into surfaces with a distinctly evocative presence.
Drawing on Venice’s historic and artisanal legacy, the collection reimagines its codes through a contemporary architectural language. References to the compositional sensitivity and visionary work of Carlo Scarpa emerge in surfaces defined by refined material depth, precise detailing and the expressive potential of large formats.
The palette takes its cue from the city itself: earthy, nuanced tones recall the muted colours of the lagoon, while the terrazzo aesthetic evokes one of the most recognisable expressions of Venetian material tradition.
The collection marks a further evolution in the collaboration between Florim and Matteo Thun & Partners, rooted in a shared exploration of spatial perception and in the relationship between material, colour and vision. United by an ongoing rediscovery of Italy’s landscapes and material heritage, this design approach finds a new expression in SensiVenezia, where surfaces create enveloping, continuous environments and decorative richness enters into dialogue with the demands of contemporary architecture.
Across the entire Sensi project, perception is both the starting point and the guiding principle. Each collection adds a new layer to an evolving narrative in which material becomes space through the intelligence of craftsmanship, weaving together memory, sensory experience and technological innovation. Sensi, SensiTerre, SensiColore and SensiEtna together define a coherent and recognisable design language, at once expressive, rigorous and deeply rooted in material culture.
The collection is articulated in twelve colours, each named after an emblematic place in Venice: Arsenale, Ca’ d’Oro, Fenice, Giardini, Giudecca, Lido, Mercato, Rialto, San Polo, Zaccaria, Zattere and Zitelle. Together, they form a chromatic portrait of the city, moving between monumental architecture, reflected light, urban pathways and the quieter landscapes of the lagoon islands.
SensiVenezia is available in two surface finishes. The matte finish offers a restrained, uniform aesthetic that enhances the visual continuity of the material. The soft finish introduces a richer tactile and visual dimension, heightening the depth of tones inspired by marble and glass.
Both finishes are available for floors and walls in 9 mm and 20 mm thicknesses, offering flexibility across a broad range of architectural applications. Large formats amplify the graphic quality of Venetian terrazzo while minimising the visual presence of joints, allowing floors and walls to read as continuous surfaces. From 120×120 cm to smaller modular formats, the collection offers considerable compositional freedom and supports coordinated solutions for residential, retail, hospitality and contract settings.
Completing the range is Scacchiera, a 30×30 cm decorative module composed of differently coloured elements mounted on mesh. Its apparently random arrangement creates a lively, textile-like rhythm across the surface, recalling the visual richness of a decorative carpet and adding a further layer of chromatic complexity to the collection.
Technological research is embedded in the collection from its very composition. A specially developed body creates a finely speckled porphyry effect that remains visually consistent with the surface aesthetic. In the fine- and medium-grain versions, a dedicated process gives the aggregates a subtle three-dimensional quality, allowing selected particles to emerge gently from the background with controlled points of light, reminiscent of stones polished smooth over time.
The large-grain surfaces instead feature an interlocking glossy effect, enriched by opalescent reflections that intensify depth, contrast, and material richness.
About Matteo Thun
"Only by daring to do something new, by crossing boundaries, can we gain new knowledge." This is the driving force behind Matteo Thun’s work. An architect and designer based in Milan, Matteo was born and raised in South Tyrol, a bilingual region where both German and Italian are spoken. He studied under Oskar Kokoschka and Emilio Vedova at the Salzburg Academy and graduated with honors in Architecture from the University of Florence. In 1981, he co-founded the “Memphis” group in Milan alongside Ettore Sottsass, and just a few years later, in 1984, he opened his own studio in the city.
About Benedetto Fasciana
The architectural and design approach of Benedetto Fasciana is deeply rooted in a passion for craftsmanship and proportion. A graduate in Architecture from the University of Ferrara, Benedetto honed his skills in interior and product design through his background in ceramic arts and his experience designing retail and exhibition spaces for internationally renowned brands, particularly during his time as Art Director at White Design in Venice. Since joining Matteo Thun & Partners in 2014, Benedetto has been responsible for developing iconic furniture and lighting solutions—creations that reflect his dedication to artisanal quality and the studio’s shared values: simplicity, functionality, and timelessness.
